To help patients reduce chronic back pain, a rhizotomy is a leading-edge treatment that uses radiofrequency (RF) waves and prevents the nerves in the spinal joints from transmitting pain signals. The treatment improves the painful symptoms associated with impaired spinal facet joints. Typically, this type of damage is caused by aging, an injury, or a disease, such as arthritis. After patients have tried more conservative methods, our expert pain management doctors may perform a rhizotomy. By offering innovative treatments, like rhizotomy, Tricity Pain Associates Corpus Christi strives to help patients alleviate their long-term facet joint pain. Thank you for entrusting us with your pain management needs. We encourage you to call our office and schedule an appointment with a caring staff member.
"I am happy there. Dr. is going the extra mile. I have been to other Doctors no one tried as hard. You have to realize they can only do so much. The other place lost my x-ray and never ordered another. You will be sorry if you leave"- M.C. / Google / Jul 09, 2021

As an outpatient procedure, our team can usually complete a rhizotomy in about 30 – 90 minutes. To ensure you remain comfortable throughout the treatment, IV sedation is used so we recommend bringing an adult that can drive you home. After administering the IV sedation, a fluoroscope or a live x-ray machine is used to place a hollow needle in the proper position on your back. Next, we gently push an electrode into the needle and apply the radiofrequency waves to the area. The radiofrequency waves will reach the intended nerves and sever them so they can no longer send pain signals to the brain. Generally, about 80% of patients tend to experience improvement.
