About Percutaneous Discectomy
When excess pressure is placed on spinal nerves, it can cause severe pain, numbness, or muscle weakness. The intense pressure can happen for a variety of reasons, including a herniated disc, spinal stenosis with herniation, or osteoporosis. As we age or because of disease and injury, the spongey material in between each spinal vertebra may become dislodged. These cushion-like discs provide stability and minimize shock to the spine, and when they become damaged, it may cause painful symptoms in the neck, back, or legs. Our team at Tricity Pain Associates in Corpus Christi, TX is proud to offer an innovative procedure, like percutaneous discectomy, to help our patients live more comfortably and safely manage pain. Thank you for entrusting us with your pain management needs. We invite you to schedule an appointment with one of our friendly staff members.
"I am happy there. Dr. is going the extra mile. I have been to other Doctors no one tried as hard. You have to realize they can only do so much. The other place lost my x-ray and never ordered another. You will be sorry if you leave"- M.C. / Google / Jul 09, 2021

"I want to give kudos to Dr. Kao for his expertise and in-office pain management equipmentthat I have had treatment on.Having very stiff back muscles from years of FIBROMYALGIA and other related issues, the injections he gave me, neuro muscurally were quite effective.During another office visit, in describing some of my neck stiffness going down to my shoulder he went and got some injections to take care of the persistent spasming. His office is clean and staff is friendly.I would recommend him to other patients."- D.J. / Google / Jan 14, 2020

Lasting only for 30 – 60 minutes, a percutaneous discectomy is minimally invasive and an outpatient procedure. At your appointment, we start by asking you to lie comfortably on your stomach, and we will use advanced x-ray technology to display live footage of the spine and internal structures. Next, we will numb your treatment area and give you a sedative to ensure you remain relaxed throughout the procedure. During the procedure, a tube-like apparatus is placed into the incision and then a decompression device is threaded into the tube to eliminate the excess disc material from the area causing pain. In this part, you may experience some slight pressure. Once we complete the procedure and before sending you home, we will monitor you for a little bit and provide aftercare instructions.
